French Groups Petition Against Ultra-Processed Foods

The associations Footwatch, Yuka, and França Socante have launched a petition demanding political action against ultra-processed foods. These foods are described as being too high in fat, sugar, and salt, and containing excessive additives. The petition notes that ultra-processed items can represent up to half of children's diets in France. The group APF is also involved in the call for increased controls and sanctions. Consumer groups are demanding better labeling to inform consumers. Scientific studies indicate these foods are detrimental to health, contributing to obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and mental health issues. Over 60% of packaged supermarket products are considered ultra-processed.
