Uganda Confirms First Ebola Fatality
The Ugandan Ministry of Health reported a case of Ebola in Kampala. The patient was a Congolese man who traveled from the Democratic Republic of Congo, became ill, and died. He tested positive for Ebola. Uganda has experience with outbreaks of multiple ebolaviruses, including Ebola virus (EBOV) and Sudan virus (SUDV). The country has previously dealt with outbreaks of all three species of ebolaviruses. Health officials are working to contain the spread. The European Union's Public Health Agency has called for increased cross-border monitoring following the confirmation. Nearly 50,000 people have been vaccinated against Ebola.
