Associate Professor Discusses Hemophilia Care In Singapore
Singapore has approximately 230 individuals with Hemophilia A and 44 individuals with Hemophilia B. The discussion noted that the lifelong disease can present issues associated with intimacy and physical contact. Patients typically require lifelong factor concentrate replacement therapy through specialized treatment centers. Research into gene therapy is ongoing but not yet a current cure. Medical discussions in Singapore highlighted concerns regarding bleeding into the iliopsoas muscle for hemophilia patients. This muscle, which attaches to the spine and extends to the thigh, is prone to bleeding during physical activity. Treatment approaches include on-demand administration of factor concentrate or prophylactic regimens to reduce bleeding severity. Associate Professor Tien Sim Ling joined the Health Matters program to discuss hemophilia treatment and management in Singapore.
