Madrid Hospital Uses Laser Technique to Treat Parkinson's Tremors
Hospital Clinico San Carlos in Madrid has successfully completed over 400 treatments using a new technique to eliminate tremors in Parkinson's patients. The procedure takes approximately 90 minutes and does not require opening the skull. One patient, 65-year-old Jose, regained the ability to eat and drink after suffering from tremors for 20 years. The treatment aims to assist the more than 200,000 people in Spain living with Parkinson's disease. The procedure involves placing the patient in a resonance machine under local anesthesia while the patient remains awake. The laser targets the exact point in the brain causing the tremors. This advancement has reportedly improved the lives of more than 400 patients in Madrid, with a 90% success rate in preventing tremor recurrence.
