Hanta Virus Outbreak Reported On Cruise Ship
Russia's consumer protection agency, Rospotrebnadzor, has sent an inquiry to the relevant Dutch authorities regarding a hantavirus situation. The company is now considering diverting to the Canary Islands, potentially landing at Las Palmas or Tenerife, which are approximately 1,500 km from Cape Verde. Two passengers on the MV Handius are facing a suspected Hanta virus outbreak. The vessel is operated by a Netherlands-based company and authorities are considering screening them for disembarkation in the Canary Islands. Kari Debink from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health stated that officials are attempting to identify the source of the rodents. The source noted that quarantining the individuals is currently being treated as a precautionary measure. Concerns regarding the potential spread of the Hanta virus were raised during the broadcast.
