Mexico's C-Section Rate Exceeds WHO Recommendation
The rate of cesarean sections in German clinics has more than doubled since 1991, according to data from the Federal Statistical Office. In 2024, approximately 216,000 of the 655,000 births in clinics were via C-section. Hamburg recorded the highest proportion of operative deliveries nationwide in 2024. The rate was 15 percent in 1991. Mexico records 70 C-sections for every 100 births, which is significantly higher than the World Health Organization's recommended rate of 15 per 100. The broadcast questioned potential reasons for this disparity, including medical convenience, fear of pain, or a shift away from natural birth practices.
