Taiwan currently has approximately 350,000 patients living with dementia. Statistics indicate that approximately 20% to 40% of the population may develop dementia following certain neurological progressions. Symptoms include physical stiffness and slower walking speeds. The condition can impact cognitive functions and motor language as it affects the brainstem and moves upward. Researchers note these changes can manifest several years after initial onset. Taiwan is experiencing an increasing number of dementia cases, specifically noting the challenges of Lewy body dementia. Patients with this condition often face both cognitive decline and motor impairments, making long-term care difficult for families. A portion of Taiwan's elderly population is experiencing dementia, with a particular concern for cases emerging after the age of 60.
