Ghana Reports Significant Malaria Mortality Reduction
Ghana reported only 52 malaria-related deaths in 2025. Disease prevalence in the country has also been reduced to less than 9%. The reduction follows a decade of declining mortality rates. Malaria-related mortality reported in Ghanaian hospitals shows a continued reduction over recent years. This decline follows a 2022 prevalence estimate of 8.6%. Interventions including vaccines are contributing to the reduction in malaria prevalence. The national malaria control strategy includes a coordinated vaccine program. Ghana aims to reduce malaria-related mortality by 90 percent and malaria incidence by 50 percent between 2024 and 2028. Authorities have identified 21 districts in the country that are currently close to malaria elimination. The strategy involves targeted interventions to push these specific districts toward full elimination.
