Heat Wave Expected To Impact Guatemala
The Instituto Nacional de Sismología, Vulcanología, Meteorología e Hidrología (Insivumeh) reported rising temperatures and increased solar radiation across Guatemala. Authorities warned of potential forest fires due to high heat and humidity shifts from the Pacific Ocean. Monitoring shows some rivers and water levels are currently rising, specifically noting increased levels in Lake Petén Itzá. Residents are advised to avoid prolonged sun exposure and monitor cloud cover changes. Temperatures in northern, Caribbean, eastern valley, and Pacific regions of Guatemala are expected to reach between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius. Central regions are forecast to reach 27 to 29 degrees Celsius, while western areas will average between 25 and 27 degrees Celsius. Ricardo Menendez, head of pediatric emergency at Roosevelt Hospital, warned that these conditions could lead to heatstroke.
