Hessen Targets Renaturation Of 100 Streams By 2027
The Hessen state government aims to restore 100 streams to a near-natural state by 2027 through a new funding program. The ministry is providing support to ensure the renaturation process is managed alongside agricultural needs. The Hessen Ministry of Agriculture plans to renature 100 streams in the German state of Hessen. The environmental group BUND noted that every wild waterway contributes to species and nature conservation. Reporter Victoria Enzenauer provided the report. The program intends to increase biodiversity and improve water quality in rivers and creeks. The ministry stated that natural developments of watercourses must not occur at the expense of agricultural businesses. If a watercourse shifts, the restricted management strip moves with it, which affects planning security for farmers. The state currently remains far from reaching this target number.
