China South-to-North Water Project Exceeds Supply Targets

China's Ministry of Water Resources reported that the South-to-North Water Diversion Project's East and Middle routes have transferred over 887.6 billion cubic meters of water since full operation began 12 years ago. The Middle Route spans from 32.4 degrees north to 40 degrees north latitude. Li Yong, director of the Water Conservancy Project Management Department, stated the project uses a digital monitoring system to ensure safety across the central route spanning 32.4 to 40 degrees north latitude. The project involves a 480-kilometer area north of the Yellow River and has faced discrepancies between planned and actual engineering progress over the last three years. The mobile charging industry in China is expected to exceed 320 billion yuan by 2030. The industry scale for flexible charging services is projected to reach 57 billion yuan in 2025, with a target of exceeding 320 billion yuan by 2030. The project has completed 12 freeze-thaw cycles and diverted over 87.6 billion cubic meters of water to 195 million people. Managing ice during winter remains a primary challenge, specifically for a 480-kilometer section north of the Yellow River. Engineers are utilizing an integrated sky-earth-water monitoring system and digital platforms to ensure project safety and water quality. The project aims to maintain water supply and quality security through technological innovation. The Ministry of Water Resources currently maintains 774 effective technical standards following recent institutional reforms. The project has supplied over 500 million cubic meters more water than planned in the last three years.
