France Unveils Fossil Fuel Phase-Out Roadmap
France has presented an exit plan for energy production targets. Experts described the move as an signal regarding the end of fossil fuels. In France, the Socialist Party is calling for more consideration of proposals from Boris Mvalot, the leader of the Socialist deputies. Concrete ideas for the fossil fuel exit are expected to be integrated into the upcoming COP 31 climate conference in Turkey. The proposal is part of a coalition of climate protection advocates at the Transition Away Conference. The plan aims to reduce coal power usage by 45% in neighboring countries. Additionally, the plan targets a reduction of petroleum by up to 20% and gas by up to 50%. The Swiss government is currently reviewing related laws. The country plans to decommission its last two coal-fired power plants by 2045. The phase-out of oil is scheduled for 2050, followed by gas.
