Finland Reduces Air Pollutant Emissions By 50 Percent

Finland has successfully reduced harmful air pollutant emissions according to the Finnish Environment Institute. Sulfur dioxide emissions decreased by 75 percent between 2005 and 2024. Nitrogen oxide emissions fell by over 50 percent during the same period. Particulate matter and volatile organic compounds both decreased by approximately 50 percent. Fine particles and harmful organic compounds in Finland have both decreased by approximately 50 percent. The largest reductions in emissions are attributed to cleaning smoke from power plants and industrial facilities. The source noted these reductions in the context of environmental progress.
