Oil Leak Reported Near Anapa Following Tanker Damage
Fuel oil is leaking into the soil and affecting beaches in Anapa. The refinery was closed for nearly two weeks following the spill that affected the Nordosti Canal. Extensive cleaning measures were required for a stretch several kilometers long. The spill has reportedly caused 'oil rain' in nearby areas. Petroleum products have fallen as rain in the region, creating difficult ecological conditions. The situation remains difficult due to social media blocks in Russia. Local authorities have published reports regarding successful cleaning operations, though volunteers indicate work remains. Vehicles are being used to clean beaches, while fuel and sludge are reported to be spreading across roads throughout the city. Volunteers are assisting with cleanup efforts as fuel oil and residue spread across roads and beaches.
