Indian Businessman Offers To Rescue Escobar's Hippos
The son of an Indian billionaire has offered to relocate 80 hippopotamuses in Colombia. Anan Tambani, son of an Indian billionaire, has proposed a solution to manage the Colombian hippopotamus population. The animals were originally brought to the country by drug lord Pablo Escobar in the 1980s. Local authorities have considered euthanizing the hippos due to the damage they cause to local river ecosystems. Tambani has offered to take responsibility for their maintenance and care instead. Anand Ambani, son of an Indian billionaire, has offered to pay for the shipment of 80 hippopotamuses from Colombia. The animals were originally introduced to the region in the 1980s by drug kingpin Carlos Escobar. Ambani aims to prevent a planned cull of the hippos by Colombian authorities. Carlos Valderrama is identified as a Colombian tropical veterinarian.
