Borkenkäfer Infestation Low in Bavarian Forests
Bavarian forests are experiencing their lowest Borkenkäfer infestation in a decade. This is attributed to the effective removal of infested trees, leading to significantly reduced damage. From April 2025 to March 2026, approximately 317,000 cubic meters of damaged wood were recorded. This is a decrease from the 1.6 million cubic meters recorded in the same period the previous year, representing a five-fold reduction. Experts state that sufficient water for trees is the best defense against bark beetle attacks.
