Approximately 280,000 adult *Populus* trees currently exist within Beijing's Fifth Ring Road, according to Jiang Yingshu, former head of the Beijing Forestry and Greening Bureau's Science and Technology Department. Replacing these trees would take 340 years to reach a height of 3-4 meters, according to Jiang Yingshu from the former Forestry Bureau.
