Global Fossil Fuel Transition Conference Opens
Colombia and the Netherlands are co-hosting the first international conference focused on transitioning away from oil, gas, and coal exploration contracts. The discussions follow March 2026, which was recorded as one of the hottest months globally. The conference aims to address climate change following recent global heat records. The event includes representatives from major energy-producing nations. A conference involving representatives from more than 50 countries has commenced to address climate change drivers. Nikki Reich of the Center for International Environmental Law described the participating group as a coalition of doers. Participating nations include Canada, Mexico, Australia, and Nigeria. Discussions focus on transitioning subsidies from gasoline and diesel to renewable energy and batteries.
