China Designates Flood Control Personnel for 2026

China's National Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters has released a notification regarding responsibility personnel for 2026. China's National Flood Control Office has organized consultations predicting a new round of heavy rainfall from April 26th to 29th in eastern Southwest China, Jianghan, Jiangnan, and South China. The designation includes personnel responsible for major rivers, large and medium-sized reservoirs, key flood control cities, and sections along the eastern and middle routes of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project. This proactive measure aims to enhance the country's capacity to manage potential flooding events. The designation is part of ongoing efforts in water management and disaster preparedness. A total of 2,810 flood control and drought relief officials have been identified, with 289 of China's 333 prefecture-level administrative regions having their primary party and government leaders on the list. Authorities warned of risks including short-term heavy precipitation, thunderstorms, and strong winds. High meteorological risks for geological disasters exist in northern Guangxi, northern and southern Hunan, and northeastern Jiangxi. There is a specific possibility of flash floods in southeastern Guizhou, northern Guangxi, northern Hunan, and northeastern Jiangxi.
