Georgia Wildfires Burn 46 Square Miles
Wildfires have scorched nearly 40,000 acres across southern Georgia. The Pine Land Road and Highway 82 fires are currently active. Thousands of residents have been displaced and evacuated from their homes. Fire crews are working to contain the spread. The Brantley County Highway 82 fire in southeastern Georgia has destroyed at least 87 homes. Brantley County Manager Joey Kason reported the fire is moving rapidly due to wind-driven conditions and drought. Officials warned that strong winds could further spread the flames and threaten additional lives and property. Two major wildfires in southeastern Georgia are burning with low containment levels. One fire, driven by high winds, has burned over 14 square miles and reportedly started when a party balloon struck a power line.
