Indonesia Targets Invasive Glass Catfish Population
Authorities in Indonesia have removed over 7 tons of invasive glass catfish from river systems in a single week. The removal effort is part of a broader ecological restoration project to improve water quality and restore biological balance. The catfish, originally introduced for the aquarium trade, have caused infrastructure damage by burrowing into riverbanks. The program aims to reach a total removal target of at least 10 tons.
