Wolf Protection Status Downgraded In EU
The protection status of wolves in EU forests was downgraded from strictly protected to protected last year. Lukas Ende, an expert at Naturschutzbund Österreich, stated that a favorable conservation status has not been met.

“Der Schutzstatus des Wolfs wurde im Vorjahr EU-Wald von streng geschützt auf Geschütztherap gestuft. [...] Dass ein Land mit einer Größe von Österreich mindestens 100 oder näher Rudel haben muss, um von einem ökologischen, gitschigen Erhaltungszustand sprechen zu können, haben muss, aber diesen Erhaltungszustand sieht Lukas Ende, Experte beim Naturschutzbund Österreich nicht gegeben.”
