US Defense Spending Figures Questioned By Senators
The US Department of Defense reported spending 37 trillion won on war costs, according to a report from YTN Radio. However, a private think tank estimated the actual expenditure at 65 trillion won. This equates to a daily spending rate of 1 billion dollars or 1.5 trillion won. The report notes that under the War Powers Act, certain actions may be taken without congressional approval starting May 1. The US executive branch intends to increase the defense budget for 2027. The Pentagon reported that the cost of the war in Iran has already reached $25 billion. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth faced parliamentary questioning yesterday regarding these costs. Hegseth described the primary opposition as irresponsible and defeatist statements from Democrats. Some senators claim that classified briefings suggest the current figure may only be a quarter of the actual expenditure.
