Sterling Heights Approves Lakeside Mall Redevelopment Plan
The Sterling Heights City Council approved a tax incentive plan yesterday to transform the former Lakeside Mall. The project aims to convert the site into a city center featuring housing, restaurants, and shops along Hall Road and Schainier. To fund the development, the City Council unanimously approved a combined transformational brownfield plan. The plan includes upgrades for district buildings, such as Roseville High School. Some estimates suggest the total redevelopment cost for the former mall could reach $1 billion. Development Director Colm Carby stated the initial phase will focus on building out the interior. Economic development consultant Luke Bonners stated he hopes the developer hires union labor for the project. The approved amount represents a portion of the total required funding. Construction on the development could begin soon.
