Seattle Leaders Propose 12.75% Sewer Rate Increase
County leaders are proposing a 12.75% increase in sewer rates for next year, according to the Seattle Times. The wastewater treatment division requires $14 billion for infrastructure upgrades to prevent sewage from entering local rivers and lakes during heavy rains. Under the current proposal, the average rate payer would face an additional $8 monthly cost. Additional double-digit rate hikes are reportedly being considered. A Disaster Assistance Center is opening in King County today to assist those affected by December storms and floods.
