Shanghai Shipyard Advances Cruise Ship Base Construction

The vessel is currently undergoing interior decoration and debugging at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding under China State Shipbuilding Corporation. The expansion aims to scale the local supply chain and talent cultivation. Chen Gang, General Manager of a Shanghai shipbuilding company, stated that the localization rate in the domestic cruise ship supply chain has increased from less than 30% during the first vessel to 35%. Huaxia International Cruise Company, established in Shanghai two years ago, is working to increase the localization rate of its supply chain. Hou Dawei revealed that a local talent pipeline is being accelerated to support the operation of future domestically produced cruise ships. The country is accelerating the development of a local talent pool for domestic cruise operations. This includes training Chinese captains, engineers, and hotel directors to standardize service levels. The move aims to increase China's influence in the international cruise market. Shipbuilders stated that digital and intelligent technologies, including AI-driven autonomous production scheduling, were used to compress the timeline. The vessel features various suite types and enhanced human-machine interaction capabilities in public and cabin spaces. These technologies were integrated into the shipbuilding process to improve efficiency, quality, and safety. This development is intended to drive growth across manufacturing, retail, and entertainment industries.
