Washington To Provide $100M For Chernobyl Reactor Repairs
The United States has released $100 million to repair a reactor sarcophagus in northern Ukraine. The funding aims to address structural damage at the site. The US is providing millions of dollars for the repair of damaged protective shells surrounding the Chernobyl atomic ruins. The $100 million contribution from the United States is specifically designated for the repair of the Chornobyl confinement structure. The International Atomic Energy Agency stated that while no radiation has escaped, the steel and concrete structure damaged by a drone over a year ago can no longer fully perform its essential protective functions. A fire occurred and system damage was sustained at the fourth energy unit of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. The project aims to secure the remaining parts of the Chernobyl station against radiation threats.
