Yunnan Committee to Mediate Travel Disputes

New contract regulations in Yunnan Province require travel agencies to explicitly list all shopping stops and additional fees for non-itinerary items. The Yunnan Tourism Committee provides a mechanism for consumers to file appeals if service quality does not meet standards or if disputes with companies cannot be resolved. The committee specializes in the tourism sector to mediate between guests and travel agencies. This process is intended to reduce the workload of government departments. The new contracts include detailed daily accommodation standards to prevent opaque practices and forced consumption. Travel agencies will face explicit penalties for unauthorized group changes or forced shopping. Zhu Hongyin, president of the Yunnan Provincial Travel Agency Association, advised travelers to sign formal contracts before booking trips. He said that contracts must clearly specify accommodation star ratings, dining standards, and transportation details. Consumers are urged to verify service standards and breach of contract clauses during the registration process. This guidance aims to protect tourists through legal documentation.
