Belgium Inflation Data Delayed By Indexation Dispute
The Belgian Office of Statistics has not yet published the consumer price index figures for April. A dispute regarding the application of methodology within the index commission, involving social partners, has delayed the officialization of the numbers. The Economy Minister noted the figures were expected this morning. This delay creates uncertainty regarding wage indexation for tens of thousands of employees. Affected workers include those in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and banking sectors who expected indexation in May. Economy Minister David Clare-Avaly holds the final decision-making authority and has a few days to issue a ruling. The current situation is described as exceptional.
