Cosmetic Manufacturers Face New Regulatory Requirements
Cosmetic manufacturers must prove that substances used in their products are safe to avoid sales bans. If a substance is proven harmful, the industry has 18 months to find an alternative component before the product is removed from the market. An estimated 500,000 beauty products require reformulation, with costs estimated at nearly 7 billion euros. The sector is currently seeking to change the regulatory framework because several commonly used substances have been classified as high-risk.
