Vietnam Struggles With Waste Sorting Infrastructure

Vietnam plans to prioritize investment in 19 projects at Type 1 fishing ports between 2021 and 2030. Current limitations include infrastructure scale and logistics services. Local fishing ports are seeing increased activity with vehicles transporting materials like coconut trunks and branches to prepare for upcoming fishing seasons. Vietnam faces challenges enforcing waste sorting regulations due to inadequate infrastructure. Shortages of sorting bins and failure to separate waste during collection have been reported. Even when residents sort waste, it is reportedly mixed during transport. These issues have led to claims that penalties for non-compliance are unconvincing.
