European Cocaine Seizures Rise Significantly Since 2013
European Central Bank survey data indicates energy costs are surging due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Inflation expectations in the eurozone are rising as a result of these tensions. The survey conducted between March 1 and March 30 shows average inflation expectations for the next 12 months are at 2.5 percent. These rising costs are expected to impact businesses and consumers across the region. Cocaine seizures in Europe have increased from one ton in 2013 to 43 tons in 2024. Authorities estimate that only 10% to 20% of the total cocaine volume is being intercepted. The source noted that drug-related crimes offer much higher earning potential than property or fraud crimes.
