French Gas Bills May Rise 50 Percent

European consumer associations alert that annual household bills could increase by 53 percent over the next four years. While energy companies and businesses currently bear the costs, European households are expected to be affected by 2028. Currently, 37% of households in France use gas for heating, a figure that rises to 55% in social housing. The warning comes amid concerns regarding the impact of the crisis in Iran on energy prices. The World Meteorological Organization stated that the record increase in greenhouse gases makes it practically impossible to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees in the coming years without temporarily exceeding the Paris Agreement. Celeste Saulo of the World Meteorological Organization said that any such exceedance must be kept as short and shallow as possible. The report notes that integrating renewable energies and improving energy efficiency remain critical tasks. Achieving the Paris Agreement goal of keeping global temperatures below two degrees, and ideally below 1.5 degrees, remains incredibly challenging. The primary resource for meeting these targets is the rapid reduction of emissions toward zero. Rising temperatures and inertia are making it difficult to respect the Paris Agreement commitments made over 10 years ago. To keep temperature increases below 2 degrees and ideally below 1.5 degrees, emissions must be reduced to zero. The BBC reported that reducing emissions is the best resource available to meet these long-term goals.
