Mining Protest Ends In Turkey Following Payment

A meeting between workers and employers resulted in a consensus to end mining protests. The relevant company deposited the remaining 60 million lira owed to the workers into their accounts. Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi stated that the conclusion of the mining action in a manner of common sense and courtesy presented a meaningful picture for everyone. Workers have ended their protest actions in Turkey. The Interior Minister and the Ankara Police Chief played roles in resolving the issue and acting as guarantors. The resolution followed a meeting involving these officials. Parties met at the Ministry of Interior to finalize the resolution. Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi intervened in an ongoing protest involving Doruk Madencilik Şirketi. Çiftçi reportedly spoke with workers to urge them to accept their receivables in exchange for ending the action. A meeting was subsequently held at the Ministry of Interior involving deputy ministers from the Interior, Labor and Social Security, and Energy and Natural Resources ministries. The meeting included officials from the Independent Mines Authority and the owner of Doruk Madencilik Şirketi.
