TotalEnergies CEO Warns Of Potential Energy Shortage
The head of TotalEnergies warned that France could face an energy shortage if the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz persists for several months. He noted that countries including China, India, Vietnam, and Thailand are already experiencing such shortages due to their dependence on hydrocarbon traffic through the strait. A closure of the Strait would result in a loss of approximately 10,000 barrels. Airlines report that kerosene costs have risen from 25% to 40% of ticket prices. Flight cancellations have already occurred, and overall reservations have decreased by 30%. The French Economy Minister is meeting with the aviation sector to address potential kerosene shortages. While no shortages occurred in April, officials are monitoring risks for the coming months. France currently imports 20% of its kerosene from the Gulf region.
