Trucking Spot Rates Rise Up To 20 Percent
Spot prices for mixed xylene at Jiangsu ports rose to between 7,450 and 7,480 yuan per ton, an increase of 190 yuan from the previous trading day. Spot prices rose by 155 yuan per ton to 7,350-7,380 yuan per ton, while negotiated prices rose by 190 yuan per ton to 7,450-7,480 yuan per ton. Perry reported seeing price rises as high as 20 percent. He noted that while this is not a spike on the level seen during the COVID era, the increase remains. The demand side is currently influencing these rate movements. Trucking industry rates are increasing following three years of excess capacity that depressed pricing power. Noel Perry, chief economist for truckstop.com, reported that spot rates, which serve as a leading indicator, have risen by as much as 20 percent. The demand side has not seen a corresponding spike to COVID-era levels, according to the report.
