Agricultural Insolvencies Rise In Romania
Expert Iulia Gurgută reported that agricultural insolvencies in Romania are systemic rather than temporary. Forty-four agricultural firms entered insolvency or rescue procedures last year, representing nearly 10% of all companies with financial problems in Romania in 2025. Thirty-one agro-companies entered these procedures in the first quarter of 2026. The issues are described as deep and systemic according to the report. Firms in Romania are entering insolvency despite a record grain year in 2025. Primary reasons for these insolvencies include losses incurred in previous years and deferred debts. One entity reported approximately 1.68 billion lei in revenue and had 953 employees at the time of insolvency proceedings.
