Thailand Seeks To Support Low-Income Farmers
The Thai Ministry of Commerce has issued measures to support farmers by reducing costs and increasing productivity. A fertilizer subsidy program is being piloted at 30 locations, offering a maximum reduction of 300 baht per bag, approximately 9.3 USD. The program aims to mitigate crop failure risks amid prolonged heat and drought. Officials are also encouraging farmers to switch to short-term, high-value, and water-efficient crops. The initiative is currently being piloted in 30 locations before a nationwide expansion. The program also aims to improve market access for farmers. Thailand is currently negotiating to purchase fertilizer from Russia. The program includes subsidies for cars, three-wheeled vehicles, and motorcycles.
