The Polish coal company PGG is receiving state subsidies despite being largely unprofitable. Most of its plants are considered permanently unprofitable. PGG is listed on the European Union's critical raw materials list. Coking coal produced by the company is essential for the steel industry and Polish defense manufacturing.
