Hormuz Strait Crisis Traps 20,000 Sailors
Refiners may prioritize kerosene and gasoline over bitumen due to potential oil supply shortages. Francis Dubrac expressed anxiety regarding tankers currently blocked in the Strait of Hormuz. A reduction in oil arrivals could lead to a shortage of bitumen as refineries focus on higher-value products like kerosene for aircraft and gasoline. The strait accounted for approximately one-fifth of global oil and 20% of seaborne jet fuel shipments last year. One-third of those jet fuel shipments were destined for Europe. Airlines have begun rearranging schedules in response to the crisis. Reports claim over 100 US targets were hit, including a US Navy headquarters in Bahrain, command centers, and aircraft hangars. Analysts estimate repair costs will exceed $5 billion. Goldman Sachs warned a prolonged Strait of Hormuz closure would cause extreme stock depletion.
