Thai Government Seeks 400 Million Baht Loan For 2026 Budget

In the Thai market for electric vehicles (EVs), the maximum loan available is 1.5 million baht. This figure represents the highest loan amount for purchasing an EV in the country. The loan is intended to address budget shortfalls for the 2026 fiscal year, as current budget allocations are insufficient by nearly 2 billion baht. The Ministry of Finance stated that the borrowing will be conducted in stages based on necessity to manage economic crises. The exact final amount remains under consideration. The Ministry of Defense is requesting 400 million baht during the upcoming parliamentary session. The ministry stated it will borrow funds incrementally as necessary to manage increasing crisis response requirements. The Ministry of Finance plans to borrow incrementally based on necessity to help boost GDP growth to approximately 10.5-10.7 percent. Additionally, the government is implementing relief packages including 1,600 million baht for logistics workers and a 30 million baht credit line through Government Savings Bank. A further 100 million baht loan via Government Savings Bank is also planned to support SME entrepreneurs.
