Historic Garment District Buildings Face Demolition

France Inter Paris 15d15d Impact 5
The garment district, once a hub for production and industry, is experiencing a decline in its original fervor. Production began shifting south in the United States and then overseas in the 1970s due to cheaper labor. Many factory buildings have been converted into offices, diminishing the industrial character of the area. While some workshops, suppliers, and designers remain, the area no longer possesses the same intensity as in its past. Five buildings connected to the garment industry are slated for demolition.
