USPS Reports Fifth Consecutive Quarterly Net Loss
The United States Postal Service posted a $2 billion loss for the second quarter of the current fiscal year. This occurred despite revenue topping $20 billion and operating expenses coming down. The board stated that higher postage and shipping prices helped to offset falling mail volumes. Postmaster General David Stutts commented on how shipping prices have helped offset falling mail volumes. USPS officials stated the self-funded agency is months away from running out of money.
