Quanzhou Maritime Trade Hub Highlighted
Quanzhou Port, known as the 'Eastern First Great Port,' was one of China's four major trade ports during the Tang Dynasty. The Tianhou Palace, located at the southern end of Quanzhou's ancient city, served as the first point of entry for foreign merchants and goods. People setting sail would worship the sea goddess Mazu for safe voyages, then proceed to the Jiangkou or Shihu docks via the Jinjiang River. This network facilitated migration and trade to Southeast Asia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. The network's shipping function has been enhanced following new discoveries. An ancient Indian Hindu temple from the Southern Dynasties period features architectural elements similar to those found in the region.
