Andreas Dressel: Premium Leads To Tax Revenue Shortfalls
Finance Minister Klingbeil stated that the German federal government must manage with lower tax revenues through 2030 than previously estimated in autumn. The federal government alone expects approximately 10 billion euros less in tax revenue for 2027. Klingbeil, who serves as both Finance Minister and Vice Chancellor, attributed the economic damage to the conflict in Iran. A premium is estimated to lead to a total tax revenue reduction of 2.8 billion Euros in Germany over the coming years. Of this amount, states are expected to lose one billion Euros, and municipalities 700 million Euros. As a compromise, the states have proposed to the federal government that municipalities should not be burdened and this portion should be financed differently. Several German states criticized a federal government law, stating it causes tax revenue losses for them without providing compensation.
