New Zealand Health System Lacks Overseas Doctor Induction
New Zealand is experiencing a mass exodus of its population, which has reached a peak in recent months. Moody's cited persistent inflation pressures, weaker growth, and higher debt servicing costs as reasons for the downgrade. The shift comes as national debt continues to increase. A report from the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists shows more than 60% of international medical graduates leave New Zealand within two years. Data indicates that over 40% of all doctors currently working in the country are international medical graduates. The report states many overseas-trained members felt unsupported upon arrival regarding pay and working conditions. The association noted that the system requires growth and adjustments to improve retention. However, more than 60% of these doctors leave within two years of arrival.
