Chinese Refinery Denies Iran Trade Amid US Sanctions
Over 25,000 sailors are currently stranded due to maritime congestion and disruptions in energy and liquefied gas supplies. There is ongoing discussion regarding whether the situation will return to normal or if similar disruptions will occur in other straits and maritime corridors in the future. Iran continues to oppose the US Navy naval blockade in the region. A full blockade of Persian Gulf ports could reduce available oil storage to approximately 30 million barrels. Current storage capacities might provide roughly two months of production if exports stop. While some wells can slow production without loss, others are pressure-sensitive and require costly maintenance if shut down quickly. Total production capacity could provide roughly two months of buffer if exports cease entirely. There is uncertainty regarding whether a sustainable agreement can be reached with the United States.
