Nearly Half Of High Oil Price Relief Applicants Have Applied
The South Korean government began distributing relief funds today to mitigate the impact of rising fuel costs caused by Middle East instability. Residents in designated population decline areas and special support areas in South Korea can receive an additional 200,000 to 250,000 KRW in support funds. The funds can be distributed via credit cards, debit cards, local love gift certificates, or prepaid cards. Approximately 552,900 people, representing 17.1% of eligible recipients, applied for high fuel price support subsidies as of midnight. The first round of applications targeted vulnerable groups, including basic livelihood security recipients. Seoul recorded the highest number of applicants with 86,418 individuals. Gasoline prices in Seoul rose to 2,047.9 KRW, while diesel reached 2,034.2 KRW.
