UK Ministers to Relax Flight Laws

UK ministers intend to temporarily relax laws requiring airlines to operate part-full flights from UK airports. This measure aims to prevent flight cancellations caused by potential fuel shortages this summer. Currently, airlines risk losing takeoff and landing slots worth tens of millions of pounds if they cancel flights. The policy change allows airlines to adjust flight schedules in advance to avoid disruption. Airlines are facing increased costs due to rising kerosene prices, which account for one-third of airline expenses. Passengers are already seeing significantly higher ticket prices compared to two months ago. Airlines are seeking financial hedges to manage these fuel price fluctuations. Synthetic kerosene and Power-to-Liquid technologies are currently in early development stages and not yet viable for fuel-free flight.
