Tunisia Initiates National Agricultural Protection Plan

Representatives from numerous local agricultural companies in the Soliman region have agreed to establish a national union for agricultural firms. The proposal focuses on addressing challenges faced by companies specialized in the region. Mohamed Taouil, president of the first regional agricultural management company in Soliman, stated the union aims to address sector-wide problems and seek serious solutions. The proposal seeks to formalize the sector's structure. The proposal includes groups for local companies, fruit producers, and grain producers. The union aims to facilitate product distribution, improve export capabilities, and manage relationships with banks and other stakeholders. The Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture announced on Friday the commencement of a national emergency plan to protect crops and agricultural wealth. The plan aims to mitigate risks from rising temperatures and the approaching locust season. Officials stated the measures are necessary due to forecasted heat increases and potential pest threats. The Tunisian Ministry has launched an annual operational program to prepare for the upcoming drought season and rising temperatures. Efforts include clearing forest gaps to prevent fires and cleaning paths to ensure fire truck access. The ministry is also maintaining advanced observation points to ensure early detection of forest fires.
